About GAIN

GAIN’s mission is provide a global platform for education, innovation and motivation in athletic development. GAIN focuses on the possibilities for enhancing human movement through an emphasis on connections between all disciplines to enable adaptable athletes to reach their full potential.

The GAIN Conference started in 2007 with 12 attendees and 4 instructors and has grown to nearly 100 attendees from all over the world. GAIN is a community of professionals eager to learn and willing to share ideas and information. Members come from a variety of backgrounds: athletic development coaches, sport coaches, physical therapists, ATCs, doctors, and physical education teachers.

GAIN is not about more exercises, sets, reps and training methods it is about passionate people who pursue excellence with honesty, integrity and respect to make a difference in the lives of the people we coach and teach.

About Vern Gambetta

Vern Gambetta is the founder of GAIN. He is widely regarded as the founding father of functional sports training and the author of several books including “Athletic Development.” He has been coaching for nearly 50 years, gathering experience across nearly every sport imaginable:

  • Track & Field: Co-founder of USA Track & Field coaching education program. Edited Track Technique, the technical journal of USA Track & Field. Associate editor of the IAAF technical journal, New Studies in Athletics.
  • Baseball: Director of Athletic Development, New York Mets. As Director of Conditioning pioneered conditioning for baseball with model program for Chicago White Sox. Consultant to Cincinnati Reds and the University of Texas.
  • Basketball: Assistant conditioning coach for Chicago Bulls. Conditioning coach for Canadian National men’s team and the Canadian women’s team.
